"We are just walking each other home." ~ Ram Dass
I woke with a deep homesick feeling to be barefoot, crazy, right, homesick to be barefoot but it happens to me sometimes and sometimes the miss is stronger than others. Like right now, I WANT TO BE BAREFOOT! Every memory recall of being barefoot has resurfaced from walking out on a shady cool porch, to high step running across hot summertime Las Vegas asphalt, to the charlie horses I used to get in my arches, to standing on one foot and placing the other foot alongside my knee (I'm sure that's a yoga pose), to the way sliding my feet down into crisp sheets felt at the end of a long day, to the last time I played in the rain, to fixing the knotted area rug in our entry with my toes and the way the grass tickled my ankles as I walked across it the night of my accident...35 years of barefoot memories.
This journal page isn't 'beautiful' (it's never about beauty vs ugly in fact there is no judgement in anyway) nor is it full of words, well there is about a 30 word paragraph under all the paper, glue, and paint. What this journal page is, what art journaling is about, is an outlet of expression, a healing antidote, a gift of ease to me.
During the flow of creating this page the quote above kept coming to me, a reminder once again of our connectedness. It is a lovely quote, don't you agree? Does it ring truth to you as it does to me?
When was the last time you were barefoot and played in the rain, dug your toes in sand, stepped on a thorn? Go on, take a few minutes, kick off your shoes and play. If you happen to think of me while feeling the earth beneath your feet, I'd love for you to share it with me, send me a message or maybe a picture, here, email or on FaceBook. And, if you're not a barefoot kinda person, that's okay, simply enjoy the walk home with all those around you.
